WWWWow: Weasels, Wendy, Other Wendy and Wosa

After our cocktails at Brasserie Julien, the two Wendy’s and I headed up to 24 East 81st. We were going to the beaucoup chic Bruno Jamais. Wendy’s friend Wosa (okay, her real name is Rosa, but we changed it for the sake of making this an evening of W alliteration ) had met Bruno in the island of the beautiful people, St. Barts. And, speaking of beautiful people, Wosa is a Latin goddess and it is no wonder that Bruno gave us VIP status, thanks to her.

Bruno Jamais restaurant club is in a beautiful brownstone on East 81st Street. When you enter the brownstone you feel as if you have entered into a secret haven of luxury and beauty. We walked through a long hallway of wines--- to meet Rosa, I mean Wosa, at the bar. Moment’s later we met the charming and enormously hospitable Bruno.

Thanks to Wosa’s pal status with Bruno, we were given a great table right under the mirror (see the picture below). I was dazzled by the design of the room. Bruno has a great eye, both for the ladies and for design. He hired architect Tony Chi to create a ‘home away from home.’ It is not surprising that Bruno Jamais received the “Best Restaurant Design” Award by Hospitality Design Magazine for 2004.

Not only is the room ultra luxe---the colour story of Bruno Jamais is overwhelmingly red and you know how I love that. I wanted to take many of the artworks home with me in a doggy bag. I love the lips portraits---I want both of them. The art is for sale and yet I was afraid to ask how much the lips were—as if I learned it might have only increased my longing.

Bruno has an impressive résumé of restaurant experience; he has worked at Ducasse, Daniel, and Chez Regine. The chef at Bruno Jamais is Andrew Karasz. Chef Karasz, formerly of Nicole’s, 11 Madison Park, and Union Pacific. Pastry Chef, Francois Payard from Lexington Avenue Patisserie has created the dessert menu. And, the wine list is a who’s who of the best wines available.

Okay, now to the good stuff. The 4 W’s enjoyed a tres soignée supper. This weasel had Terrine de Foie Gras in a Port wine reduction and sea salt to start and then the Scallop 4 ways: Flash seared w/ ginger and scallion / American caviar and Meuniere sauce, asparagus / Wild mushroom, bacon vinaigrette / Parsnip puree & truffle sauce. The scallops were amazing and the sauces, OMG---if I had been home alone with these scallops I might have completely lost my couth and regressed into animalistic manners and taken to licking the petite scallop plates until the sauce was completely gone. We all split a chocolate soufflé that's decadence, deliciousness, and delight was emblematic of the entire evening.

Wosa picked two bottles of amazing red wines, I have no idea what they were, but Wosa has amazing sommelier skills. And, two bottles of wine and more champagne with dessert may sound excessive, but, all of us W’s were laughing and talking so much which created a powerful thirst.

Speaking of fluids. This weasel knocked over two glasses of water. Note to self: limit wild gesticulating when you have had several glasses of wine and table space is limited. And, I almost lost a fork to the floor, but it turns out the WendyB has super Ninja powers, a la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. WendyB caught my fork in mid-fall. Impressive. I have never before met an uber-chic Ninja. ( See below a picture of WendyB the super chic Ninja receiving synchronized weasel kisses, in stereo).

Another fabulous feature of Bruno Jamais is the music. Bruno plays music from the 80’s---which inspired some crazy dancing. As we supped on our sumptuous supper we were entertained with dancing from a bevy of blondes who had the Boda-Bing dance style down. Soon, the wine had gotten the better of Bruno’s guests and there was dancing everywhere. As we had a table by the mirror we attracted dancers who enjoyed watching themselves in the mirror. It was an exceptional floor show of rich and powerful men dancing with the young and well-extended girls. When I say extended, there was one gal who was rocking some Crystal Gale length hair extensions. This same gal was intimidated by the fabulous WendyW and wanted her out of her personal space(I think she was afraid that WendyW might cut in on her action---as WendyW is a powerful force to be reckoned with). There were moments of mild concern that a cat fight might breakout---if it had come to that all WendyW would have had to do was go for the roots and it would have been all over.

The W’s, She-weasel and the NYC He-weasel danced, too. And, sadly, the He-weasel was accosted by a gal-gone wild that did unspeakable things with her tongue to the He-weasel. The She-weasel was mildly traumatized watching her date being accosted by another woman.

I wish, I could somehow put into words how much fun we had. It was an absolute delight of an evening. We had the best time. Truly, this evening was the highlight of our trip and the most fun I have had in a very long time. Thank you, WendyB, for everything. You were too-too-too generous.

I am starting to plan now how I can create an evening for you, Wosa and Waul that will match the fun and fabulous factor of what you did for us, when you come to visit in Chicago. Merci, beaucoup!! You are too kind, generous and fabulous!!!! We cannot thank you enough.

And, WendyB, I thought you would want to know, since you are responsible for this love connection, that the She-weasel and the NYC He-weasel are getting along fabulously( as you can see in the frisky picture---NYC weasel has some serious Casanova moves). As we discussed, NYC-weasel is going through some withdrawal, being in the quiet of the suburbs. I feel confident he is going to talk La Belette Rouge into a return visit to NYC.

Reading this was almost as fun as experiencing the evening the first time! I laughed out loud a million times. It is damn true that Wosa is a Latin goddess. Good point about going for the roots while fighting a woman with extensions. I've made a mental note about that. He-weasel (who really needs a wardrobe upgrade...how can he call himself a New Yorker) seemed to me to be a little aggressive at first, but She-Weasel...well, she looks content.

Sounds like you're having a fabulous time! I'm so envious. But if you ever plan to be in the LA area, we have our share of good eats and egomaniacal babes with hair extensions to pick fights with, so let me know. ;-P

WendyB: Thank you so much!! I cannot thank you enough for all you did to make our trip to NYC fun and memorable. But, truly the best part of the trip was meeting you, Rosa and Paul. I cannot wait until you come to Chicago and I can entertain you all in kind.

And, yes, He-weasel moved fast. But, She-weasel was happy about that;-)

Deja Pseu,
I will actually be in L.A. in March and some in April. Would love to get together for a night of "good eats and egomaniacal babes with hair extensions to pick fights." LOL!!!
Looking forward to it! And, hope you visit Chicago soon :-)

CC/CocoChanel/Chantal,
We did have a GREAT time!! I never-ever imagined that you could meet such nice people blogging. I have been so happily surprised to make such lovely friends via the web---you, most definitely, included. :-)

And off topic...I am quite pleased to be your nemesis. I love being a nemesis...it lets me delude myself with visions of...well, not grandeur, but at least relevancy. And I must acquire one of those smurf-kicking weasel dolls. Those rock the Kasbah.

Oh, wow!! My nemesis has posted. You made my day! If you look at this post you can get the info on where to get a weasel. http://labeletterouge.blogspot.com/2008/01/la-belette-rouge-trs-beaux-cadeaux.html

So, happy to meet you. And, fear not Darth Weasel, you are totally relevant and even full of grandeur to la Belette ;-)

Wow... that NYC he-weasel is feisty! I like it! :) What a great dinner. I lived the experience vicariously through this post!! Now, I just need an actual sample of those scallops and I'll be good!!

B,
He does have some moves and he is a fast worker. Usually, She-weasel doesn't neck on the first date. She made an exception.
I wish Bruno delivered---and yet, the ambiance and the company adds to much to the whole experience.

Lynn: Wish you could have been there. It would have been even better!!

Hello ladies, it's Wosa!!!! Sorry for my late reply on all this fun! I had such a fun time and truly enjoyed meeting, eating, drinking, dancing with you oh so sexy ladies... Bruno's was a hoot... and yes, the Ms. Igottaweavebutactlikeit'srealgetouttamydancespace hootchie whom I believe is a permanent fixture there did manage to get my latina blood boiling a little, but that only aided in giving my cheeks a natural hue... I hope to see you guys soon in either L.A. or Chicago - would be hoot to live it up again. I must find my she-weasel and dress her up like Carmen Miranda... cha cha cha cha cha...

Oh, LBR, merci for such a lovely post! I enjoyed being a part of your evening, if only vicariously. Girlfriend, you had me at "cocktails" and sealed the deal with "terrine de foie gras." As someone who's been gamely trying to get through this "special diet" the last few days, it was heaven to get even just an imaginary taste of great food.

I'm definitely doing to have to get to NYC sometime. I subscribe to New York Magazine and always salivate over the unbelievable number of restaurants featured.

I'm so glad you had a fantastic time. Thanks for sharing with us!

Salut,
Marjorie

Hola Wosa!
Thank you for arranging such a lovely evening. It was indeed a hoot!! And, while you shared your skin care secrets with us--now I think we have learned another. "Ms. Igottaweavebutactlikeit'srealgetouttamydancespace hootchie's" effects on the circulation and the imapct on your lovely skin cannot be underated.;-)
Sooooooooo nice to meet you!! Please come and visit Chicago very soon! And, you absolutely must get a Wosa weasel!

Marjorie:
A trip to NY is no place for a special diet. I relented and ate carbs and I am happy I did.

I think I read somewhere that you could go out to eat, three meals a day, in NYC and you wouldn't have eaten at every restaurant in NYC. I currently live in a suburb that has 4 restaurants ( 5 if you count Panera).

I did have a great time and I am happy to share the fun with you. So happy you enjoyed the virtual cocktails and foie gras. ;-)

LBR, I'm a carbaholic. I'm getting bored of this darn diet. Reading your post about your fine dinners at NYC alleviates some of the tedium!

Okay, you've sold me on NYC. I think that if I were to visit you in Chicago, I might stay in town. No offense, but I can't be in a neighborhood with only 4 restaurants (5 if you count Panera)! Wow, that must be painful. That may be the reason why B. and I haven't moved to a very small town, although he would make lots more money if we did. (Money we would blow on going to the city every weekend to eat at a restaurant!)

Salut,
Marjorie
