I have happy/sad/happy/sad news. Roofy, nay, Pepe, is back with his family. His family went to the pound yesterday and saw the picture of Roofy. They called my mother in law and wisely my mother in law grilled the people who claimed to be his family. She asked if he was fixed or not and for any distinguishing markings. She asked for his name and then went and called him by the name they call him, Pepe. Roofy came running. It seemed that they were indeed his family and that his name really was Pepe.
An hour later the family came and claimed their pooch. My mother in law gave them orders to get micro-chipped and fixed. They promised to do both. Then they took Roofy away.
I am of course happy for the five year old boy who had been grieving the loss of Pepe for days. That said, I am so sad for Lily, my mother in law and me. My M.I.L fell hard for Roofy, as one would do with such an adorable dog. I know she misses him. When we go back to visit my in laws,Lily, He-weasel and I will miss him too. I miss him already.
Bye, Roofy. Adios, Pepe.
Picture of Roofy(Pepe)Lily, and my hand was taken at my in-laws house by my F.I.L.

You all were so good to give him safe harbor while he was lost. He had a little vacation, and now he's home. I'm sure he'll often dream of his days with those nice people who took him in.
We have to be grateful to Roofy for showing us that Lily needs a sibling and your in-laws need a pet. But what a crazy couple of days you've had - doggie has gone home and NJ opp is no longer. I know that this is all happening to allow new, happy occurrences. Please don't worry. I am confident great things are coming...
That is happy but sad news...but at least he's back with his family and he had somewhere nice to stay!
Oh dear, happy and sad news at the same time. Wonderful that 'Roofy' was reunited with his family but I sincerely hope they microchip him now!
Maybe the in-laws will get their own dog now too!!
Take care
Clive and gang
the title of this makes me smile THIS big
Well, the sad 5 year old boy certainly trumps the issue so I can't help but be happy Pepe has gone home. On the other hand perhaps your in-laws will be happy to give a home to another homeless dog from the pound. I have a feeling Lily might just enjoy meeting another new friend.
He'll be happy and Lilly will miss him for a while. All is well that ends well.
Roofy will live forever in our hearts.
Wait...that sounds like he died.
Ah what the hell...he'll always be Roofy to us.... :)
Oh, sorry to hear that, Belette. (Pepe did look somewhat Hispanic to me all along).
As other people mention, it's good to see that Lily would get on well with a wee doggie sister or brother.
Nothing like finding your lost post...you have made one family super happy and you became, my dear LBR, the answer to their prayers...pat yourself on the back, also your sweetheart, and your MIL.
Isn't now time to go to the pound and find another rufus or pepe? : )
what a lovely saturday for you...
xoxo
Maybe "Roofy" can be his middle name? And between the fixing and the microchipping, he has a fun week ahead of him (but both are necessary). Sorry, I know it's hard.
personally, I think the in laws need a Westie. :)
I'm so happy that his family found him - they must have been distraught, and so sad that he's no longer in your family.
Adios, Roofy! Thank heavens he had a good and loving home while he was "lost". I'm sure he is happy to be with his family! Maybe we should say "Aloha, Roofy"! because Aloha means good-bye (from you to him) and hello (from his family) all at the same time!
I'm pleased for the little boy who had missed him, but sorry for your in-laws and Lily. You'll have to get her a new playmate!
He looks like a cheeky Pepe, and it's good that you did all you could to get him back to that little boy... After the dust has settled, it's perhaps time for your MIL to adopt an adorable 'replacement' and sibling for Lily from the shelter - Definitely! Love to you x
Oh sad for you but so happy for Roofy/Pepe and the little boy who missed him so much. Maybe your in-laws now see that they need a little doggy of their own.
Oh what a shame! I prefer the name Roofy too x
Pepe will always remember his "affair" with the gorgeous Lily and no other bitch will ever make him happy.
Bitter sweet indeed.
High time for a baby brother for Lily's sake (and yours, He weasel's & MIL's!).
Lily's so adorable in the pic :))
Time for MIL to go to the pound and pick a pooch to love!
So glad lil' Roofy found his home again. You all are wonderful people!
And your hand is very photogenic.
XO

Adios Roofy. Thanks for the memories. Hopefully Roofy's family will keep in touch?
Is Roofy a rat terrier or a Chihuahua?
We have a rat terrier, Cookie, and she looks like Roofy. The difference is that I'd be scared to let Cookie play with another dog as I can't always trust her.
Maybe y'all can have play dates? I'm so glad you found the owner!
Although I'm happy for the little boy who got his Pepe back,I'm pretty sure Roofy would've had a totally awesome life with your MIL.Maybe your in-laws will be inspired to rescue a dog that definitely has no family to go back to.I sure hope so.Life is just so much better with a little furry animal in it.
It's sad to have him go but at least you know he is back with his family who obviously loves him and missed him.
Now about that sibling for Lily......
Well darn, I'm happy, sad, happy, sad about this news. :):(
Roofy already seemed a new part of your blog. I am glad that his family found him, yet I wish there was a way to confirm that they did microchip and fix the cute little guy.
You did a fine job with him, and it's highly likely that you saved his life.
"I am of course happy for the five year old boy who had been grieving the loss of Pepe for days."
I am so thrilled you were able to reunite dog and little boy...I can imagine his heartbreak at the loss of his dearest friend in the whole wide world and I can also imagine the relief of the parents that they were able to find him....good for you and your in laws for being so helpful and caring of roofy until he could be pepe again.
xoxo
I agree with K Line. Lily needs a sibling. Roofy was a messenger.
Yo si creo que tu nombre es ruffi, es roofy, solo es un enganio, una distraccion para la gente que lee el resto del post.
