Score: Weasel, Love/ Federer, Love

For some of you today will be filled with friends, family and BBQ. Perhaps a trip to the beach, the park or to Grandma's house? Well, not this Weasel. I will be doing the same thing today as I did yesterday and the same as I will be doing tomorrow and the day after that, I will be glued to the internet and watching Roger Federer, and those who will lose to him, play tennis at Roland Garros in the French Open in Paris (thank you Tennis Channel!).

Now, first let me say, I love to watch men's tennis on any surface, hard court, grass or whatever. Well, that is not altogether true, there is one tournament where they play on a blue court and I just can't watch it. But, don't think that means I am not a true blue tennis fan. I am. I think my favorite tournament is breakfast at Wimbledon. I enjoy some berries, clotted cream and a cup of adrenaline rich espresso in the form of Roger Federer eating his competitors for breakfast just as surely as he eats his Wheaties. But, as of late, there is one surface where my love had been bested and that is on the clay court at Roland Garros. For the last couple of years a Spaniard cutie named Rafael Nadal, known for his ¡Ole! punches, adorable matador pants, and white headbands, has been the king of the clay court. But, I believe that this is the year when Federer will reign supreme. I am only sorry that I am not in Paris to see his victory in person.

I will watch each and every match in anticipation of the final match where Roger will be crowned the king of all the surfaces. I will even watch the ladies tennis, even though I am not as much of a ladies tennis fan. I prefer to watch the boys play. I know that may sound sexist--but I think it is the same reason men always win on "Dancing with the Stars." It is a case of simple biology, most women prefer watching men. I mean, have you seen Federer in shorts? He is adorable.

I do appreciate the Goddess like powers of Serena and Venus Williams. And, I am consistently amused by the Sharapova's pre-serve rituals and the blatant coaching her father does from the stands---and I am impressed by her incredible power and mature, beyond her years, court presence. I am absolutely thrilled that finally women's prize money is equal to the men's. Yes to gender equity; you go girls! But, could you all please stop all the grunting and groaning when you serve? Even the men don't make as much noise as the gals do. Sometimes I turn the volume down just to get through a Sherapova vs. Venus match so as to not feel like I am in the weight room at Gold's Gym.

If you are going to actually go out and spend your Memorial Day making your own memories I will give you these few tennis related clips so you can enjoy a little tennis before your BBQ.

The video is called:"Roger Federer as Religious Experience" and I don't think there is much hyperbole in the title. Prepare to be amazed at the miraculous moves of this divine tennis deity.

In this Nike commercial Sharapova proves that she is much more than a pretty face. If I was to name this commercial I would call it,"Shut up and let me play." A highlight of this clip is John McEnroe singing that he feels pretty, not to be missed.

This is one of my favorite Nike commercials. It makes me think back to the hot tennis coach I had when I was a young girl and I dreamed of becoming the next Tracy Austin. Some dreams are not meant to be.

Picture of Roger Federrer looking really hot is from Men's Vogue. Roger is wearing a Prada tuxedo, shirt, and shoes. He carries a Hermès Birkin bag. And, I am in the plane waiting for him. Okay, okay, a girl can dream. Can't she?;-)

I'm not a fan of tennis, so do I have to count this as an Official LBR Sports Post®? ;-)

No BBQ here either, thankfully. More time to write!

Dear Randal: For months I have been planing my Official LBR Sports Post® and this is it. You and I have a deal; I do a sports post and you do a shoe post. Well, show me the shoe post.;-)

Je ne regrette rien said...

anyone who can successfully combine a sports topic with Hermés is okay in my book. my favorite vid is the last one. pubescent girls can be vicious. heh heh.

La Belette Rouge said...

JNRR: Really, I am not prone to sports posts. And, be sure that when I do my annual "I love Federer" post there will be Prada and Hermes and the insipid sounds of me cooing over how cute Federer is.
That video is great. And, yep, adolescent girls can be fierce.;-)

I went through my big tennis phase about 20 years ago when I moved out of my mother's house. My biggest crushes were Andre Agassi and Stefan Edberg. Their hair (especially Andre's) was pretty silly, in retrospect. Everything about Andre was pretty silly, in fact, except for his skills on the tennis court. Meanwhile, I haven't watched tennis in about 15 years!

Amities,
Marsi

I love "the king of all surfaces." That would be a great title to have.

La Belette Rouge said...

Marsi: I was watching tennis back then too. I go back to the Borg/McEnroe days. Ugh, I feel old.;-)
I remember sitting in front of the TV with a tennis racket in my hands when I was 12. I was such a tennis dork. Andre did go through a bit of a rock star phase. He did a big image makeover when he married Steffi.
Hope you have a lovely Memorial day!

WendyB: I am sure there is some building materials mogul who already has the title. "Hi, I am Crazy Larry and I am the King of all building Surfaces." Not as impressive as the title that Federer will soon have.;-)

You should live in Switzerland where it seems to be all Roger all the time. When we lived there, every time I picked up a magazine or newspaper there he was -- either in an article or ad. Not that it was painful to look at him all the time . . .

Karen: I love the stories how every time he won a tournament the Swiss would give him some very special cow. He finally had to tell them thanks but I am not really interested in being a rancher; no more cows! LOL!

I dare say next year you should be able to sit court side in Paris and given ,tennis was one way my frenchman whooed me,and one way I used to feel sportive- the game has a special allure for me! It helps when they (they players)are fine and easy on the eyes. Since we are in France,no holiday today here and no BBQ's. And there has been rain, the vingnerons are thrilled as it increases sugar content of the wine-ok, just a plus when it rains!
Your post is hysterical-can not watch the clips cause the man is snoring adorably next to me.
ps
I can not get my blog to feed either, have asked the expert Function of Time for a clue per your remark. Thanks

Dancingdoc: Perhaps we can go to Roland Garos together next year. Hopefully there will be no rain. While rain is good for the wine it is not good for tennis. Water and clay courts turn tennis into a dirty sport.

If you are still having trouble with your feeds showing up on Google reader let me know. I can tell you how F.O.T. instructed me through my technical difficulties.

I don't let Mr.OM know how I feel about Mr. Federer.

I must say the Roger Federer is HOT!!!!! Thanks for the post, it's very interesting. My friend and her hubby are going to the match tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday! Take care, Leesa

I am for Rafa! On clay, he rules. Period. Go, Rafa! :-)

I also remember how he was booed in New York in 2003 showing an ugly side of the, er, Stateside..

Whatever happens, I do think Federer needs to be told that a man, who cries year after year, is not a great sight. Sampras and Borg were examples of such phlegmatic behaviour as should be emulated at all times.

PS: LBR: That 'I feel pretty' video is superb. Thanks for sharing! I am looking forward to your foodie meme response :-)

But a pair of Spalding sneakers approacing their last legs and a pair of nice shoes worn twice are the only shoes I own. I don't even have boots for wintry Cleveland weather. Explain how a post can come from that. ;-)

but as usual, i nejoyed reading your post. tc. =]

Ha,ha,ha, Roland Garros is so important in France! Here, I have almost forgotten it!

La Belette Rouge said...

ENC: Really, you feel the Federer love too? I am in good company.:-)

Rebecca: I am so happy as a non-Tennis fan you still enjoyed the post. The Federer eye candy is not hard to enjoy. And, I do love those Nike commercials. So happy you did too.:-)

Leesa: So good to see you! And, I am green with envy. Are your friends actually going to a Federer match? Le sigh!

Shefaly: I respectfully and with enormous good will and humour must beg to differ. Federer's emotional outpouring is what made me fall in love with him. My love began when he first beat Philapousis, who I liked for about 15 minutes,at Wimbledon. When Federer cried I melted like butter and I have loved him ever since.

Now, I have to give your boy,Rafi, respect. He is a mean clay player. But, Roger has every other service. And, I do hate it when people are hateful to athletes. Booing in Tennis. So rude. H-h-hate it!!!!

If we are going to break down tennis and temperaments. I would describe Borg and McEnroe as more choleric than phlegmatic. It is my hunch that Federer is more sanguine and that is just fine by me.

I appreciate the quiet elegance and focus of Federer's on court behavior. And, sure, when he wins again and again--I appreciate the depth of his emotional reactions.

This was fun. Love talking tennis with you!! And, I look forward to responding to your meme. Merci!:-)

Randal: Well, you should have thought about that before you entered the deal. So, I look forward to your post on your shoe collection. It should be a good one.;-)

Autumn: I promise that sports post will not be a regular feature of my blog. And, I am so pleased that even though tennis is not your thing that you enjoyed the post. Merci!:-)

Anne: I so wish I was there. The fact that Paris hosts a major tournament makes me love it even more! Le sigh!
