I am a Mickey Mouse Mormon Mason

I have long had an interest in the secret, the hidden and the mysterious. Not the woo-woo supernatural mysteries kind but more the secret amongst us kind. It is not an uncommon motif; I am not the only one who finds secrets and secret societies intriguing. There are web sites filled with the secrets of the Mormons and the Masons( of which I have spent a fair amount of time attempting to discover). I have watched every History Channel show on the secrets of the Mormons and the Masons, of which there are many, and was left wanting more Mason mysteries. I tuned into specials on the Discovery channel, intrigued to discover secrets I didn't already know about Joseph Smith and his special glasses.

Growing up in L.A. means I spent a lot of time at the Magic Kingdom. We went to Disneyland every time a friend or relative came to visit. I went for birthdays, Christmas and Easter Holidays and, of course, for Grad Nite. As long as I have visited Disneyland I have been intrigued by their secrets. When I was little I wanted to know who was under the Mickey Mouse costume and wondered whether they were hot, sweaty and miserable. As I got older I was curious what the secrets behind the shiny-happy exterior of Mickey-land was really like. I wanted to see the imperfections of the park. There had to be a place in the park where tired employees sit and complain about being thrown up on by a child who had a toxic mix of too much cotton candy and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

When I got older still I learned that that there was a secret place in Disneyland meant for just a select few. A doorway hidden among the rides, tee shirt shops and churro stands that I could not enter. This place was called Club33. Club 33 is a private club in the Magic Kingdom in which you can drink alcohol. Now, I enjoy a good cocktail every now and then but not enough to pay $10,450 for that privilege and an annual fee of $3,275. Even if I was ready to pony up, or should I say Pluto up, that kind of cash, there is a 10-20 year wait list for membership. Right now there is such a long wait list that the Mouse of all media isn't even accepting letters of interest let alone membership applications. Only 487 memberships are ever available and a membership only becomes available when someone dies( as memberships are not transferable).

For years I have longed entry into this place just to see it, just as I have dreamed of somehow sneaking into a Mormon temple to see what I can't see and then to hightail it out as soon as my curiosity was satisfied and I understood once and for all what the purpose of the magic underwear is. Since I haven't sent of a letter of intent to get on the decade long waiting list and I know no one who is a member I may never see the inside of Club 33.

However, the other night I dreamt of Club 33. I was there with my husband( only it wasn't He-weasel, in dreams you can by bigamous without any legal ramifications) and another couple( I think they were my sister, that I don't really have, and her husband). We went to the door of Club 33 to get a membership. I had a bag of stickers that said Club 33 on them and I had a Club 33 dog collar. This, in the dream, was given to me by another of my sister's and was proof of my eligibility to join the club. I showed it to the girl at the desk. She went away and came back. She said that my husband and I were eligible and that for $75 we could be members( which is almost $13,000 off the regular price). I explained to the woman that my sister was also a member of the church(it felt as if I was saying she was a Mormon. which in the dream I seemed to be). All four of us pulled out our credit cards to pay for entry. We were all delighted that for such a small price we could be members of this exclusive club.

Well, this e-ticket of a dream was too good not to take to Igor. First of all Igor was intrigued that I had dreamt of both Six Flags Magic Mountain and Disneyland in the course of a single week. Both places are for amusement and both are places that promise "Magic".

Igor strongly believes that this dream has to do with publishing, as publishing would be the happiest place on earth for me, and oh, sweet Mickey Mouse, do I hope he is right. Publishing is a secret society of which only the select few gain admission and the price for admission is steep and even if you are willing to pay it one might have to wait for many years to gain entry to the club of the published because it is a "Small publishing world after all."

He also thinks that it is not so much being in Club 33 or getting into a Mormon temple but rather getting past the threshold of those who cannot enter and he equates this with publishing. See, he believes that the important part of publishing for me is to be accepted by the authorities and not so much what comes after that. As, I don't really care about staying at Club 33, I just want to get in and see what it's like. I don't have much fantasy of what will happen after I publish I just want to get in the club.

What gets me into this club, in the dream? I have been given a dog collar and stickers by my sister. What the heck does that mean? Well since I really have no Mormon sister who is a member of Club 33, I think the dream is trying to say that the way I will gain access to the place I have always wanted to go is through feminine relatedness, something very close to me and it is not through money but through identification that I will get in. The dog collar is worn for identification. The stickers show belonging. I gain entry into a place that has a very high price of entry and I have to pay a low price to enter it. Pretty nice. I only hope the dream is right.

Now, let me get all conspiracy theory on you. Disneyland's Club 33....33...well, the highest order of the Masons is the 33 degree initiation. Christ died when he was 33. Harry Truman was the 33rd President of the United States and he was from Missouri. Walt Disney was from Missouri ( or as I like to call it, Mouse-souri) and many people believe Disney was a 33rd degree Mason. Many claim that Joseph Smith got the rituals for the Mormon Church from the Masons. I am just saying....

*** I am away from home until Tuesday night. I am not sure if I will have access to the internet. If you don't see me here or on your blog, please understand why. Thanks!***

I have many Mormon friends and I keep saying if it wasn't for the drinking, gambling and cussing I could be one!

Maybe it was just a dream? I have strange ones sometimes and I prefer not to think what they might really mean! I hope Igor's interpretation is right though.

I think the greatest mystery is life itself. The Divine Feminine is the true act of creation. Keep writing. Keep writing. Keep writing. One of Yeat's laments was he wasn't a great dreamer. You are. Make the most of it.

You now have me wanting to watch everything on the Masons and secret societies, I am truly intrigued.

~Tessa~Scoffs said...

The "club" is unconditional love. Something you get from a "sister" (all us bloggy sisters?) and the owner of the dog-collar, Lily. You were surprised it was so easy? Your parents never gave you the "secret."

P.S. Just my interpretation.

KristyLynne said...

I am a mormon and I was excited to read this post! I think your interpretation was pretty good. Although for someone who has never entered a Mormon temple it is interesting in your dream you had to show a "credit card" (or something like that. In the temple, you can't get past the front desk without a temple recommend.

All very interesting stuff . . . and I'm so annoyed that I'm not a more curious person because I can't imagine ever having such dreams! I also can't imagine wanting to pay that much for a cocktail. . .
there must be more to it, in some secret 33 handshake kind of way.

I just read a book (called A Vicious Circle, by Amanda Craig) which is all about the publishing/journalistic world in London. As far as I can tell, as soon as you "get in," then you just start worrying about your reviews and sales figures and whether or not you can write another publishable thing!

Still, who wouldn't want the validation? I like what Tessa said, though.

themom said...

I too have watched just about everything on the Masons, but have failed to have the same interest in the Mormons (except for their pious financial support of California's Prop 8). But the linking of the #33 is awesome. Amazing what the mind and some researching can come up with.

If I were forced to go to Disneyland regularly -- say, due to children -- I would pay any amount of money to go somewhere to drink alcohol.

Delightful post even though I am not all that fond of secret societies?! I mean that I love them for movies and such, but not in real life.
I love your dreams, and I have to say Igor sounds to have come up with a good theory. I second his theory. What is he suggesting that you do with it? Is the dream guiding you to something?

You may have posted this before I started reading your blog...what are you writing now? Are you close to publishing?

Have a wonderful Monday!

I know nothing about dream interpretation, but isn't it also a question of often redreaming more or less the same thing? (I have such a dream, which I will not tell you about - at least for the moment!) :-)

Fascinating stuff the info and the dream - publication behaves like a club but it ain't exclusive just seemingly elusive but it WILL happen Mickey!!

I recently discovered your blog (from reading DejaPseu's blog, I believe), and I'm absolutely in love with your writing.

Also, as a fellow therapy-goer, I find your descriptions of your sessions with Igor fascinating, because (as college students would put it) there are both similarities and differences with my own analysis.

I recently decided to start my own blog, and you already are an inspiration for it. Thanks.

I like the sound of "Mr Toad's Wild Ride" !

If you're interested in Mormons have you ever read Jon Krakauer's "Under the Banner of Heaver" ? Or any of the books about the Mountain Meadows Massacre ? Lot's of fascinating history out there...

And you have probably done this already, but if on the off chance not, just google "numerology 33" and start reading !

Hey - I hope all is well. Will email you offline as soon as I have 5 minutes. I am thinking of you.

On this topic of the dream - this one didn't really speak to me but I love your interpretation. Esp. about the feminine relatedness. And that number stuff is whack! Intriguingly, it seems you are already a member of a (writer's) club - the 'sphere.

I just looked at Tessa's comment and it is so delightful! You are a member of a sisterhood (something that might be a bit foreign to you) and sister love is unconditional.

PS - You can't get booze at Disneyland? (That's wrong.)

hollarback said...

You can get booze at Disneyland, you just have to go slightly outside to downtown Disney. You can also serve booze there if you rent out the park for an event.

(Generally booze + amusement theme park rides is a pretty bad idea if you think about it.) Taking the Indiana Jones ride while tipsy is not a good thing, trust me on that. But it does make the jungle cruise hysterically funny...

enc said...

How interesting that you dreamed of Disneyland the week I went there. I never knew there was a Club 33. What arbitrary numbers they use for the name of the club, the membership roster number, and the membership fee.

Shawn said...

Well----now you "know" a Mormon---or LDS as we like to call ourselves. Most of us are pretty normal out and about in the world.

We aren't really as strange as everyone makes us out to be----and by the by----you can watch for a new temple that is built---they always have an open house before they dedicate it. You can peruse it to your hearts delight!

Great writing, though....

Another fascinating dream, and this one has Mickey and Pluto and a secret-squirrel club! THe 33 number thing is rather nteresting Miss LBR, it isn't sounding conspiracy-theory-ish at all.

We've never been to Disneyland and must say that we don't really feel as if we missed anything. (Unpatriotic or something equally horrific, we know.)

Hope you are having fun while away,
tp

I am totally into secret stuff too...

I once went on a date with a guys whose family were members....the date was awful...so bad that I refused the offer to go with him on a second date...I may never find out!

Imogen Lamport said...

Wow I wish I knew about this club 33 before I went do Disneyland! Why didn't you tell me -I've had been seeing if I could spot it.

I'm thinking that maybe the sister reference is to do with your female friends (bloggy female friends?). The dog collar is interesting - dog collar to me say religion, but then there is also Lily ... is Lily going to lead you to meet your future publisher? as you are the dream interpretation expert I'll have to leave it in your capable hands.

susan said...

If you want to know even more about Disneyland Mouse Tales is a good one. Not much about masons though.

Did you know the Shriner's still don't allow female membership?

Mardel said...

Maybe it is a dream about being part of something, a sisterhood perhaps, not just about getting published. I see others have mentioned this. Perhaps this yearning to belong and be loved is so hard to accept. This dream confounds me and I suspect it is not as hidden as you might want to make it out to be, but really, no dream interpreter I. I should have you come look at my dreams.

Hope you have been away someplace fabulous.

Good Morning Belette!

1) I, too, was intrigued with the whole Mormon/Mason thing for quite some time, until I left it out of frustration. BTW, the Rochester suburb of Palmyra was where Joseph Smith first printed the Book of Mormon, to which the Rochester newspaper responded with a front page headline of "Blasphemy!"
2) You know, on my first trip to DisneyWorld at the age of 6, I too thought Mickey and friends had to be hot, sweaty, and miserable, especially in that heavy humidity of Florida. I remember the costume smell...
3)Dog collar... identification... stickers. Can't help but speculate what this dream would have meant if it were mine.
David
PS -- I know that vanity press publishing isn't the way to go, but have you ever thought of self-publishing through legitimate means, like Lightning Press (www.lightning-press.com). I know you're most likely aware of that option, though. xo

You really think you can be probing the mysteries of James Mason without paying the consequences?

La Belette Rouge said...

KT: LOL!:-)

Completely Alienne: I think I forget the dreams that are just dreams but I imagine even those are rich with meaning if I could remember them.

home before dark:Dreaming comes easy and writing comes easy, it is the publishing that comes hard.;-)

TopSurf: There are a lot of shows on the masons. Check out Netflix, I bet they have something.

~Tessa: What a beautiful and poetic interpretation. It is so nice to have so many loving and supportive sisters who give me so much and help me get entrance to what I really want that I though I could never have.

Thank you for your lovely interpretation!xo

KristyLynne: Thank you so much! So my credit card could be like a temple reccommend? Very cool!!!

La Belette Rouge said...

pretty face: It is good to be back at home again and back to my bloggy home.
Glad you liked it!xo

Carol: Glad to add to your numeric obsessions!

Bee: There are other prizes that come with Club 33 membership. There are special events, a gourmet restaurant, you can ride a special train and there are special Club 33 souvenirs you can buy. There may be more that I don't know of.

I am sure that once I get into the publishing club there will be plenty of new desires, fears, concerns and yet I sooooo want in the club!

themom: I was a bit obsessed with the number three prior to finding out about the Masons or Club 33 so that only added to my interest.

It seems that Joseph Smith took a lot of ritual from the mormons. If you are interested and you google mormons and masons you will find a lot about it.

WendyB: ROFLOL!!!!!:-)

La Belette Rouge said...

MrsLittleJeans: He is not big on suggestions( other than his obsession with houses). I think he is just saying that this is where I am and not so much of what to do with it but rather to notice it. It seems to me that the dream is saying that I am right at the door( and I am. I am starting to send out queries for my book again soon.) In the past I haven't felt I had the right stuff to gain entrance. This dream is saying that I don't have the traditional things to gain entry but I will get in just the same.

I am writing a memoir called "Thursdays with Igor". It is about my reluctant homecoming to L.A. and the weekly sessions with Igor in which I try to survive my Southern California Sysphus. It is about my relationship with my mother, with L.A., and with Igor.
xo

Peter: I think we keep dreaming the same thing until we get their message and then our psyche can move onto something else once we have integrated the first dream( at least that is what I think).

I am waiting to hear your dream!!!:-)

Make Do Style: Thanks believing that I can get into the club. I'll take you to Disneyland when you come to L.A.

Alice: Thank you Alice!! I am so thrilled you found me. And, I look forward to reading your blog and hearing about your therapy.:-)

The dream, to me, stickers, Disneyland, sister (friend, playmate, ally) these things all suggest fun (and maybe helpful contacts?). And then the getting in for less...maybe the less you stress about the end result, getting published, and focus on the process the easier it'll be to get published. But these are my associations. Yours may be totally different. But in general I think it's saying you can totally get in, and maybe...you will write and publish 33 bestsellers!!!

La Belette Rouge said...

Owen: Thank you so much for coming by and for sharing your wonderful suggestions!!! I LOVE Jon Krakauer. I have read Into Thin Air many times and when I saw he wrote about Mormons I ran to the book store. Such a fascinating story.

K.Line: I find it so amazing that I dreamt of Magic Mtn. and the Magic Kingdom. I also loved that I have sisters I didn't know about and they are sisters who help me get where I want. Soooo cool. I think Tessa is right, you are all my sisters!!

PS Nope. You have to leave Disneyland to get it. You can, as Hollarback said, get it outside of Disneyland and in California Adventure but other than Club 33 Disneyland is dry.

hollarback: I imagine it is cheaper to join Club 33 than it is to rent out the park.

Poor you, Indiana Jones on booze sounds bad!! I do love the comedians they hire for the Jungle Cruise. I always laugh.

enc: Did you have fun? I hope so. I know, the numbers seem so strange. There has to be a reason.

La Belette Rouge said...

Shawn: So cool! Thank you!!! I so want to find an undedicated temple. I would love to see one. Have you ever been to the one in L.A. or la Jolla?
Thanks for understanding my interest and enthusiasm.

Lakeviewer: I feel strangely hopeful after this dream.

thepreppyprincess: You made He-weasel laugh so hard that he snorted. He loved the secret-squirrel club. That is a club that I would love to join!

If I ever get into Club33 I will invite you and the prince to join us.

Hanako66: Oooh, he must have been horrible if you were willing to pass the chance to enter the secret club.

La Belette Rouge said...

Imogen: Sorry, but all you can see is the door. It really isn't exciting unless you can get in.
I do think that all my bloggy friends are helping me get into the publishing world. Stickers are about making contact with something that sticks. You have certainly helped me with *contacts*. Gosh, dreams amaze me!!!

susan: I wish someone do a movie about the masons, the mormons and the mouse. That is a movie I would love to see.

My grandmother was an Eastern Star which is the womens version of the Masons, I think.

Mardel: I do think that the sisterhood is the key to entry into where I have always wanted to go and that is amazing. I feel so lucky to have such wonderful blogging sisters who give me so much.
My time away was more of a good deed than a getaway. ;-)

La Framéricaine: I'm back and I am dreaming again!!! More dreams to come.:-)

1) It was something that used to have a lot more energy for me than it does now. I lost interest as I think I learned that whatever secrets there are they wouldn't be as satisfying as the search.
2) Great minds think alike!
3)Please share!
PS -- I have huge authority and legitimacy issues that make self publishing seem a very unattractive option for me. I want in the *CLUB*!!!!xo

Belle de Ville: I would love to get an earful of what employees think of Disneyland. I bet they have stories to tell.

Randal: See this and enjoy( as it turns out James Mason is God):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60T_6ubNFp4

Cheryl: Stickers are things that stick. Stickers make contact with things and they stick. These are my sister's contacts that let me in. LOVE this!!! Helpful contacts that are very close to me.

I would love to think that the price for entry to publishing could be much less than I thought and that it could be fun and easy. That would be lovely.

LOL!! I would be thrilled to publish one book that made it to number 33 on the best sellers list!;-)

Fantastic associations!! Thank you, Cheryl!!

Thank you everyone! I got so much more from the dream because of all of you.:-))

I actually got to go to Club 33 once! My old co-worker's husband had a membership and she made a reservation for me and my boyfriend for our anniversary. There were so many rooms that I didn't get to see, so the one visit just didn't cut it, lol. I hear that you can take a Disney tour though, and they'll take you in.

La Belette Rouge said...

cybill: Nice! Yet, I fear that the long arm of the mouse would stop me from writing my mormon-mason-and mouse inspired movie.

Jen: LUCKY!!!! I am so jealous. I have heard if you take the tour you just get to see the lobby. I want the whole ball of cheese( I was going to say wax but I wanted to stick with the mouse metaphor).

I was breathless reading this post. That kind of stuff is enough to keep me up at night wondering. Yeah, and how come my Mormon friends (some close ones in high school)skirted around the secret underwear issue whenever I asked about it.
Maybe if I count 33 sheep when I go to bed I will have a fantastic dream simply for my entertainment, or maybe one that will unlock deep mysteries.

hollarback said...

I went to a party where they had rented out Adventure Land and there was booze galore. Booze doesn't really add to the Disney experience.

A friend did get a tour of Club 33 and I think of Walt's Apartment at the park. No idea how she swung it. I used to know where the 33 entrance was, but haven't been to the park in ages.

La Belette Rouge said...

linda: It has taken years of dreaming to get to the point of dreaming of secret socities.Nappping is my secret.;-)

Lydia: I am intrigued by the underwear. I have a LDS friend who is mum about the underwear too.
oooh, nice. Count to 33 and tell me what happens.

hollarback: It isn't so much the booze I want. What I want is access to the *secret*!

Club 33 is right by Pirates of the Carribean exit. It is upstairs but the entrance is downstairs. I have heard that if you take the Disneyland tour they take you into the lobby. But, the lobby isn't enough for me. I want it all!!!! Mwah-ha-haaaaaaa!!!
