1. Good news!!
We don't have to sign a lease. We can stay here month to month with no rent increase. Not that I want to stay here, but you know what I mean.
2. Lily needs an agent and/or an attorney
Did anyone realize that Lily is a movie star? Each time a small child sees her they squeal, "Bolt!"
3. I have hair like Maegan's
Thanks to, gorgeous blogger, ....Love Maegan I tried Dove Color Repair Therapy Shampoo and Garnier Fructis Instant Melting Conditioner: Sleek and Shine. I like them as much or more than the Frederik Fekkai Shea butter shampoo and conditioner that I have been using for years and that cost me almost $35 a bottle. The Dove shampoo and the Garnier Fructis conditioner together were under $10. I am saving over $65 and my hair is just as soft and silky. Now, truth be told, my hair is nothing like Maegan's but my products are. Perhaps with consistent use I will turn into a highly glamorous fashion blogger.
4. A heartbreaking kidnapping of staggering dreaminess
I dreamt that Dave Eggers kidnapped me. Any interpretations from any armchair Igors?
5. A memoir a week makes the chances of publishing feel less bleak ( and, no, I am not a poet)
I have decided to read a memoir/book of essays a week. It seems I am spending way too much time on my own story for both good and for bad (what is good for the book can be a little hard on me). I need to read something that gets me out of myself and yet feels as if it is helpful for my own writing.
I recently read a memoir that was not great ( this is not the book I discuss below in #2). I have to tell you that I forgot the sheer joy of reading a memoir that is not funny, smart, inspiring or insightful and that it still got published and lauded with praise by critics---all the while boring me to tears. In fact that the bad memoir is much more motivating than reading a brilliant one. I fear that I am going to read all the good ones first and then finally, when I run out of the good ones, I will eventually find the crap ones. Maybe I should rethink this and do one good memoir to one crap, or perhaps two bad ones to every good one is the most motivating ratio.
On my book stand are books that I am sure all fall into the good category: Unreliable Memoirs by Clive James; The Wishing Year: A house, a man, my soul. by Noelle Oxenhandler; How to be Alone by Jonathan Frazen; The Disappointment Artist by Jonathan Lethem and I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max.
6. I read "Who do you think you are?"
I sat on the floor at Barnes and Noble the other night and read the whole thing from cover to cover in two hours."Who do you think you are?" by Alyse Myers is the story of a mother that didn't love her daughter, told by a daughter who didn't love her mother. I had seen Alyse interviewed on "The View" about her book on the Friday before Mothers day and I knew this was a book I had to read.
Alyse's mother was a horror, think "Mommy Dearest" without the wealth, fame or wire hangers. While this is not an easy topic to read about there is something in the way that Alyse tells the story that you don't feel vicariously traumatized as you read it. As great as Augusten Burroughs' "Wolf at the Table" is, and it is, I had a VERY hard time reading it. It was torture to read and yet it was so well written that I couldn't put it down and I am glad I didn't.
Somehow Alyse manages to make the torment of her childhood bearable to read. I know that sounds weird. Let me give you a metaphor to explain, you know how in some movies the way the camera focuses in up close and tight and the music that is used makes it almost unbearable to watch and other films the camera feels far back and the focus fuzzy and there is no high tension violin music to heighten the internal tension. In that metaphor Burroughs' book is film one and Myers' book is film two.
Don't get me wrong, it was shocking to read that she was kicked out of her home at 12 and that she had her long hair cut off as a punishment for cutting off her sister's Barbie doll's hair. I gasped out loud when I learned that her mother has thrown away her journal that her father gave you before he died. I suppose it is the message that her father gave her, that if you write down the bad things then they can't hurt you, that helped both the reader and the writer endure the abuse.
I liked the book for several reasons. I liked the narrator. Something about Alyse's writing made me feel as if I was reading a Judy Blume book only much darker. There was a simplicity of the stories telling that helped me as a writer. I was reminded that a simple story is enough. Don't need to get over complex or clever to have a published book. I also appreciated the honesty of the author. She, upon her mother's death did not go into a rewrite of her mother. She has the courage to say that she didn't like or love her mother and I think there is an enormous taboo that prevents many women from admitting that.
7. Daydreaming is good for me
Mrs. Capp, my 6th grade teacher, was wrong. What I need to do is stop paying attention and get to day dreaming. Take that, Inner-critic! I need to take more baths and work less. If the Wall Street Journal said it then it is true and they did and they source Archimedes (who,by the way, I think, was ripped off. See, Oprah is forever talking about "light bulb moments" or "ah-ha moments" and that is Archimedes' line and she should credit him each time she quotes him or at least invite him to her Favorite Things show). I am assure Archimedes would enjoy some Claus Porto Soaps from Lafco, New York or a Barefoot Dreams Bathrobe for once he got out of the bath and the water was no longer displaced.
Now, would someone now do a study that proves procrastination is good for you?
8. I am in the navy now
I am all of as sudden in love with navy. Where have you been all my life, navy? It seems that navy is black without all the darkness. I am not sure why it took me so long to figure that out but it was an insight worth waiting for. I wore my new navy cardigan with white jeans and my Coach fuchsia flats and I was getting stopped by strangers to tell me how much they like my outfit.
9. I stink good
I love-love-love the Jo Malone Orange Blossom Body Crème. The cream lasts MUCH longer than the perfume( which lasts three seconds). I put the cream on over four hours ago and I can still smell orange blossoms. If I had it to do over again I would have just gotten the cream as it is much less expensive and it actually lasts.
10. I can't curb my enthusiasm for Woody
After I get my hair done today I am going to play hooky and go see Woody Allen's new film "Whatever Works" starring Larry David. This afternoon I will be eating popcorn and drinking diet coke and enjoying the delicious goodness of a movie that makes existential despair funny.

Good for you. I'm glad you feel able to put some perspective on things.
I might be the first commenter? That hasn't happened forever!
So hmmm, now I feel a bit tongue-tied and after all this blathering I'll probably end up 3rd or 4th and not 1st and . . .
Oh well, here goes!
All I was going to see is that's a lot of positives for a ten-point list -- are you sure you're still in LA? Some astral travelling going on? 'cause if you're wandering around Vancouver instead, I should know . . .
Damn! See! While I was blathering, that notSupermum snuck in there. . .
I'm really glad someone has been having some good thoughts this week, because I must admit,my thoughts have been rather evil/rude/crappy this week.
You're so lucky to have found shampoo and conditioner that actually works for you.I have yet to strike that jackpot :(
I feel the same way about navy. The SAME WAY. "Black without all the darkness." Exactly!
Stinky mothball blazer I'm wearing right now? Navy.
This post has me craving a good memoir. I haven't read one in almost a year.
loving lily / bolt. loving books. loving navy. loving popcorn at movies. all good things.
Oh, I want Maegan's hair. But something tells me that shampoo isn't going to do it. BTW, I want an MCM home with a pool in Laurel Canyon. Have you thought of moving there?
What a bunch of pretty good things!
I have to take a look at that shampoo/conditioner combo as I can no longer afford the dreamy Italian Davines I used for years, but have been unable to find a nice drug store brand that makes my (often colored) hair as silky as it did.
notSupermum: You would be amazed by how small of a good thing I can get excited about. I am all about minutia unless the big picture obscures my view.;-)
materfamilias: LOL!! Got to be fast when Supermum is around.
My body is in L.A. my mind is in Vancouver, Portland and points in between. There is talk of a Northwestern journey. I will be writing about it soon.
Penny:I am often filled with the kind of thoughts you describe but it is too hot. I don't have the energy for evil. Well, I didn't yesterday. Let's see how I do today.;-)
Sal: Navy is sort of the diet coke to Black's coke.;-)
Sorry about the stinky blazer!!!
MeganRebekah: There are so many good ones out right now. If you find a good one that you like please let me know.
Tessa: I might even get Junior Mints. I know, decadent!
K.Line: No, I am afraid I would need hair extensions, a miracle and talent with a curling iron to have her hair. Lily would have to get a big deal with Disney in order for us to get a house with a pool in Laurel Canyon.
Red Shoes: I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on Phyto, Rene Fuerter, Frederik Fekkai, and assorted other high end products. I have to say that so far my hair is as good with the Dove and Fructis. That said, I will NEVER-EVER-EVER give up Fekkai's Protein Treatment. I don't care if he charges $100 a jar for it. That stuff is magic!!!
You're a poet and you didn't even know it, so don't blow it, busta rhyme and show it.
Barnes & Noble lets patrons sit on the floor for hours at a time?
I'm not sure I want to read depressing memoirs. Not because I loathe reading dark things, but then I'd feel I'd have no place to complain.
Navy is fine as a color, but don't start posting YouTubes of The Village People, thanks.
Randal:Yes, I am great at rhyme it is poetry I suck at.;-)
What do you think B&N do? Do you think they are going to kick out all the cheap slackers who use their store like a reference library? Oh, when I put it that way I see what you mean.
Please use my blog as your home to complain. "Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.
Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time."
It's fun to complain at Belette Rouge's blog.
It's fun to complain at Belette Rouge's blog.
And you did not even mention that you helped me find a proper way to define my tree, the efflorescing palm!
Thank God for the lease business...see, sometimes things do work out magically.
Quickly, get an agent for Lily, and send the name to me too. I would like to make money from my cats seeing that all I earn goes towards them.
Hair like Maegan...I have tried Fructis and like the fruity smell. Will try the other too but my hair is hopeless.
I don't do much navy because in my French catholic school we were not allowed any color except navy, like their habits. Still I do like it, just don't do it that much. Enjoy a wonderful and most elegant color LBR.
READ one good and one boring biography, and so very very true that looking outwardly is better than inwardly all the time.
I am not going to comment on all but must tell you that in my single, lonely, very depressed days, one night I dreamt an intruder in my bedroom and I was frightened/frozen. I got the courage to look behind the door, and there it was, Tom Selleck. I was ecstatic . Ha HA. Thanks for making me remember Tom Sellick.
Have a lovely day...I envy your fast reading ability. I read a line and sit and look at the ceiling thinking about it....painfully slow.
XOXOXO
MrsLittleJeans: Happy I could help with your palm query.
I actually do know someone who got an agent for their dog. I don't think I have it in me to be a stage mother.
French catholic school sounds exotically wonderful to me. I bet even the nuns were chic there.;-)
I am a speed reader but not in a Evelyn Wood kind of way. I do like the slow reading you describe. It is a nice way to be in relationship with a book. But, reading at B&N doesn't allow for that kind of lingering.
Happy Wednesday to you too!xo
Navy is my neutral...I love it but some seasons it it hard to find when black dominates every fashion line.
Ohhhh, Dave Eggers! That reminds me, his new book just came out and I have to go pick it up!
I'm too busy to read anything except books on BPD/NPD, so I'd appreciate it if you credited some of your memoir reading to me, similar to our arrangement for worrying. Kthxbai.
After reading this list I have a major crush on you.
Number 4 and 10 are my favorites on your lists. I adore both men, and all their works. HWOSG is one of my favorite books of all time, and Manhattan is one of my favorite movies of all time.
1. Yay! It *is* good news, because it gives you more time = less stress. Although sometimes, too much time to make a decision is a bad thing (as I am feeling right now)
2. I miss Lily photos!
3. Oooh I am totally checking that out. My hair is currently like redheaded straw (is there such thing? hmm)
4. Sorry, you'd have to pay me
5. Reading a bad book might be motivating, but it is also quite depressing. It makes you realise how easy it is to write crap. I prefer to hope that reading good stuff might rub off on me. Seeing as you have turned your back on fiction ;) may I recommend a new memoir 'The Music Room' which was written by a fantastic author who taught me a few writing tricks in person. So surely reading his book could do the same?
6. Haha, you know I skipped the long bit ;)
7. Will you PLEASE tell my family this??
8. I am glad you share the love with me. Even 10 years of school uniform in that colour has not diminished my love for this glorious colour.
9. Woohoo! Jo Malone! I am currently waiting to hear if I won some Jo Malone goodies... the competition closed yesterday.
10. Mmm I am guessing you watched Vicky Cristina Barcelona? Sooo beautiful <3
xxxxxx
Try:
The Speckled People by Hugo Hamilton,
Singing Songs by Meg Tilly,
Misadventures by Sylvia Smith,
Sleeping Arrangements by Laura Shaine Cunningham, Bachelor Girls & Shiksa Goddess by Wendy Wasserstein
That's all I can think of at present :)
I forgot Nuala O'Faolain's "Are you Sombody" which is not everyone's cup of tea. But I liked it.
Belette,
I can't read books like the one you described. It is too upsetting to me. I am sorry that any child or animal ever has to feel powerless or unloved.
so glad you are enjoying the Jo Malone body cream. That, as I have said was also my experience. I have the Lavender and Amber, but it is almost gone. I may try the red roses when we go to Chicago this summer.
Haven't tried Fekkai's protein treatment. My hair tends to hang straight and stick to my head and neck. Do you think this would take much of the body out of it? I don't have a problem with my hair not being soft.
I'm glad someone else can go to Barnes and Noble and read a book in an hour. I thought I was weird to be able to do that.
Kitten: I am so looking forward to reading his new book. His writing astonishes me.
WendyB: I will read memoirs for you if you will work on my query to agents. If so, I will read 6 memoirs a day for you.
Maggie May: Well, you certainly have wonderful taste in film makers and writers. I am delighted that we have a love of these men in common. So many people don't like Larry or Woody.
Manhattan is such a beautiful movie. Really, I could watch it with the volume off and still enjoy it.
I read your posts and think, wow, I have to comment on that and wow, I have to comment on this and then get to this page and can't remember what the hell I was going to say!! and when I try, it says "AM I SURE I want to navigate away from this page?? and something about losing what I wrote so I don't(that always freaks me out and I should just try it)...I need to take notes on your posts sometimes, I have so much I want to chat with you about...I will definitely see this movie, it looks great in a weird woody way, that I love...I am thinking about navy but black, I am attached, I admit it, but perhaps I will think on it..I have moved to some white, a little pink but alas, mostly black but your little outfit-yummy-, must admit, the little red coaches help my image, sounds perfect!! but I love red shoes so is it the red shoes or the navy? oh crap, I don't have any extra money anyway so it's not something I really have the dollars to point in that direction! the jo malone sounds heavenly but orange makes me itchy...I am wondering if it would?? hmmm, maybe you could send me a dab in some saran wrap? and yesterday in nord's, I bought the most fantastic blush which I think I shall write a post on as I am bit out of ideas lately, a blush from la prairie, yes, I know but some of their stuff is heaven and this IS! this new cellular.... etc cream blush in rose..it makes my skin look at least 10 years younger which at 58 is a very good thing and is dewy and creamy and perfect..it's pricey as everything in this line is but it's also perfection in every single way and I never say that about make-up...there's always something NOT good ...if there is a something here it would be the price but $70 is cheap to look this good, modesty aside....
now I will need to go back and read the rest of your post....my memory is just plain gone...or maybe this might be long enough for a comment ;)
xoxoxoxox-glad my comment on your mommy dearest post didn't upset you
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOX
Belle: So many people had suggested navy to me as an alternate to black and I balked. I was so wrong. Navy is LOVELY!
pretty face:
1. I am hugely relieved that no commitment is required.
2. You will have more very soon.
3. FF Protein mask turns straw into spun gold.
4. My insurance doesn't cover you.;-)
5. Oooh, THANK YOU!! I am ordering it today. Can't wait.
6. ;-}
7. Give them the url to my blog.
8. I am so excited to have the new neutral.
9. The cream is BRILLIANT
10. I own Vicky Cristina Barcelona and have watched it a dozen times.
xo
Ooh, I'm envious...would love to play hookey to see that WA movie too!
I've recently been warming up to navy too, who'da thunkit??
hollarback: Each and everyone are going into my Amazon cart. Thank you, Hollarback. I am thrilled to have these suggestions. Thank you!!!!!
Julianne: Both Burroughs and Myer's books were hard and yet their enduring and surviving it I find incredibly inspiring, even more Burroughs than Myers.
I don't think I would ever buy another Jo Malone perfume but I will buy her creams again and again.
My hair is very thick and not soft without the keratin treatment. My hair is so different than yours. I don't think based on what you said that I would recommend it for you. You might want to get a sample at Sephora.
I love that I can read so fast. It allows me to read a lot. It is great isn't it?
Wonderful news ref lease - you know why, not perfect but bearable and affordable!
Navy is utterly brilliant is it not! I love it for summer as it is less harsh than black in summer light etc etc.
Great post and how marvellous to do a 2 hour sit down - I long for that again!
linda: Thank you!! I so love that my posts inspire so much in you. I appreciate all the time and thought you put into your posts and your comments. Thank you!!!
Let me tell you, I was and am a *black* person. My closet is loaded with black. I think navy looks better with bright colours than black. I know, it is a HUGE deal for me to say that. I have worn the fuschia Coach ballet flats with black and ellicited no comments. Paired with navy this got oodles of compliments.
I think if I sent you any it would melt. Go to Nord and get a sample. They will absolutely give you some to try.
Please write about this blush. I must hear more!!!!! So exciting! For a blush to make me look ten years younger I would pay much more than you did.
I agree with everything you said about mother dearest. No need to every worry about that. xoxo
Deja Pseu : As I told you in my email, I had to cancel my movie due to a ruptured ovarian cyst. Home is feeling the best place to be.
Navy must have changed. It couldn't have been us that changed.;-)
Make Do Style:I am a total navy convert. I am really thrilled to expand my neutral range. Don't tell navy but I think I am developing a thing for grey too.;-)
Oooh wait just noticed; there's two memoirs called 'The Music Room'
It's this one I meant:
http://www.amazon.com/Music-Room-Memoir-William-Fiennes/dp/0393072584
NOT this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Music-Room-Memoir-Namita-Devidayal/dp/031253664X
Which actually also looks good. Looks like you won't be getting crappy memoirs from me, even accidentally. Sorry ;)
Pretty Face: Thanks for clarifying! your "Music room" hasn't come out yet.I will pre-order. I am going to give the other one a try for now. Thanks!xo
I am with you all the way on Navy, I just wish more stores sold clothes in a true navy rather than a dark blue.
I agree with your comment you left me this week. Troubled childhood's do seem to make for rich storytelling pickings. I guess like the Blues it helps us weave beautiful tales of hope.
Finally I could not get through a day without a daydream it helps me visualise the good and compartmentalise the bad.
Glad you have so much to be happy about.
i adore jo malone too. navy is the new black in the summer.
WHAT is it about Maegans hair? I have to fess up that I read something about how she flipped her hair over in the shower at the end and I am such a loser that I tried it. Yeah. That's what it takes to look like her. Dream on Katie. Lucky I didn't knock myself down flipping my head around like that.
Well, now I am worried you will hate them! But I don't think you will.
Misadventures is an odd format - sort of like a blog before there were blogs really. It's a random account of daily life over the course of her life. It grows on you.
Happy reading!
indigo16: Is navy hard to find? This Spring at Jcrew( my main store) there has been lots of it.
I think that perfect childhoods are likely more damaging than imperfect ones in a weird sort of way.
I have been a longterm daydreamer. I wish I could put it on my resume as it is one of my most well developed skills. It is nice to hear that all of our day dremaming is good for us.
Savvy:This is my first summer in navy and orange blossom is my first Jo Malone.
KT:Maegan's hair is the kind of hair that would make one do everything she suggests without question. Glad you didn't knock yourself out.
hollarback: Fret not!! I love to read all kinds of memoir. I learn a lot from every one I have ever read. I thank you so much for your recommendations.
I think I will start with Misadventures.
Thanks again!
thanks for sharing your thoughts. Very uplifting and inspiring! (first time visitor)
I can't wait to see that movie, I love Woody Allen flicks and one with Larry David, well that's just a bonus for me.
As for daydreaming, my teachers always said stop daydreaming and pay attention, but I have to tell you to this day I embrace the daydream. To me it's like a little piece of heaven while awake her on earth. :)
Great list!
Haha! I just came over to tell you that I LOVED your comment on my blog today! YOu made me chuckle! Lily is so cute...OF COURSE she makes kids squeal!
Good news about not having to move to another interim place and yes, Lily should have an agent even though I didn't get the Bolt reference :-) I'm such a cultural retard.
Did Lily get popcorn at the movie too?
Oh ! I want perfect shampoo!!! I haven't found mine yet!!! And with my hair? I need to try every product available in the market!! Curly hair can be a real hassle, I always say if I don't take care of it regularly I may die from split ends!!! ;)
love your reply to Randal.
In fact love your comment replies generally.
(Yes, I'm still reading, just not saying anything lately)
(Doesn't mean I'm not thinking)
Not sure this counts as a comment :)
I think I need to read that book!
Check out the Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls...good read.
OMG... that trailer looks HILARIOUS... I wish I could go to the movies with you!!!
Yummy orange blossoms!
EVERYONE in my household lies Garnier... can't beat the price for silky smooth hair! LOL... just thought of Zohan... have you seen that?
We are thrilled to read about the housing arrangements Miss LBR, such a huge brain-cluttering issue off the table.
And the navy, especially with the fuchsia is fab, you know we love that, except we never remember to pair them!
However... Silly Tilly asks Miss Lily *why* it has taken mère this long to comprehend the obvious: she is a star, and of course she needs an agent! Hello...? (Heh-heh-heh.)
Smiles at you,
tp
Good Morning Belette!!!
I am so excited about something, so I'm going to put last things first... you know, whatever works right?
Thank you for alerting me to this... it's showing at our art house theater here in Rochester (The Little Theater)and I'm going to see it tomorrow... and yes, I'm looking so forward to "eating popcorn and drinking diet coke and enjoying the delicious goodness".
I am a die hard Woody fan, and an aspiring die hard Larry fan... and, as you can see, I can't Curb my Enthusiasm either!!!
OK, ahem, composure David (as in LARRY... now now)...
#4 -- Sure, but I'd like to hear your interpretation first...
Oh, forget it... I can't concentrate on anything by Woody and Larry...
Ta Ta
David
correction... "BUT Woody and Larry"
Love #s 4 & 7! Your posts are always so entertaining and well-written... sorta like a Woody Allen scrip! Can't wait to see that film!
xoxox,
CC
I'm so happy Dove works for you! I still on occasion, use Fekkai ...but way less!
I wish I could read a book a week. I think I have ten on my nightstand that I have started and yet to finish. ...maybe I should take your {and WSJ} advice and work less. Yes. That sounds perfect!
I am so very glad that you can go month to month without getting hit with fees! What a relief that must be for you! I hope the Woody Allen movie was great - I am itching to see it.
Your posts are always full of interesting insights, La Belette! You're a joy to read. I like reading memoirs ... so much to learn from others' experiences of life. Keep moving forward on your project! Wishing you much love. x
Ok. Confession: This time I haven't read all of the comments, so forgive me if these are redundant...but I was soooooo tickled, I just had to chime in....
1. YAY!
2. Rush to get her one!
3. You already ARE a highly glamorous fashion blogger (and not just in my mind!)
4.ANd do you know he's also done the screenplay for the soon to be released movie "Where the Wild Things Are" (Well, maybe not soon....more towards the end of the year.....)
5. A memoir I LOVED...."Let's not go to the Dogs Tonight" Alexandra Fuller. Loved her writing about her heartbreaking childhood growing up in Africa.... She's written another, as well..... "Scribbling the Cat." Liked "Dogs" better but in either one, I found her writing delicious. (I have added to my list of must read books. Thanks.... I think!)
6. See 5.
7. Do more!!
8. Navy...not as dark as black. A sure sign you are feeling more "up." (Ask Igor. I expect he will agree.)
9. Stink on!
10. I'm seeing this flick soon with my VDF (very dearest friend.) Can't wait. I love, Love, LOVE Patricia Clarkson!!!!!!!
Margo: Welcome!!!Thank you so much for coming by and for your lovely comment. I hope you come by again. I am thrilled to discover your blog and I will be by often.
TopSurf: Woody Allen and L.D. seem like twins, in a way. It is a wonderful teaming.
Without daydreaming it seems to me that nothing new or novel can come.
Glad you liked!:-)
TattingChic:I hope you claim the title of the U.N. of Tatting for your own!
I do think Lily is even cuter than Bolt. I am sure Disney would to if only they would stop by and see her headshot.;-)
susan:It is a huge relief to know that we don't have to pay hundreds more for the same place and that if something opens up we are free to leave. Whew!!!!:-)
Lily loves popcorn!
Lena: Ooh, death by split ends. That is serious. I hope you have a hairdresser that is a life saver.
Jan: Randal's comments are so funny that I feel compelled to try to up my funny!;-)
Your comment does count as a comment. And, I am happy you are here whether you comment or not. That said, always happy to see your beautiful face in my comments.:-)
enc: Both Burrough's and Myer's books are wonderful.
L: I have read the Glass Castle. It is a wonderful memoir.
Fifi Flowers: I didn't go to the movies ( had a bit of a health issue). So, if you want to join me next week to see it I would love it.
What is Zohan? Must google.
thepreppyprincess: I am so relieved and yet Igor thinks it is a bit like having a foot in two pools. Not sure what he means by that but I am happy so that is good enough for me.
We just watched Bolt this week and it all become so obvious that she could have a huge career as a model or an actress, but what she really wants to do is direct. Silly Tilly is VERY wise.
David: I think you have brilliant taste. Woody and Larry are so smart and sooooo funny. I can't wait for the next season of Curb.
Hey, tell me yours. Please!!! I have an interpretation and I don't like it. I want someone else's take.;-)
Carrie: You are so kind to me and I love you for it. Thank you!!!! Dreams are always my favorite, whether the waking or night time version.
xo
Maegan: I will always use the FF olive oil creme and the protein treatment but I don't think I will ever go back the the shampoo.
Yes, work less and blog and dream and read more!!:-)
Sara: I feel like a bird that can fly if a new nest comes along. It feels like progress to be out of the lease.
Carol Anne: Thank you so much, Carol. I am so pleased you think so. Much love to you.xo
giggles: Holy cow, no need to read all the comments. Read what you want and write what you want. I am so happy to hear what you have to say that it doesn't matter in the least if it is at all similar to what anyone else has said. But, you are an original!!!
1. :-)))))))
2. No agent has called yet. I am confused.
3. You are VERY kind. But, have you seen Maegan? She is a Goddess!!
4.I am so excited. Can't wait to see it.
5. Thank you for the recommendations!!!!!
6. See 5.
7. It seems I can't help myself. More dreaming and less working.
8. Wish I had thought of that before I saw him today.
9. I smell soooooo good.
10. VDF. Love that!!!:-)
Oh LOOK!! You changed your avatar to the glamorous fashion blogger photo!!!!!!!!!! (See?? I told you so!!!!)
You make me feel so important and smart and special.... Merci BEAUCOUP!!!!
Giggles: Well, you make me feel gorgeous and fashionable and that is a miracle!;-) Thank you, lovely you!
I just hold up a mirror to you and that is what I see. You are important, smart and special and that is the truth! I could say more but I don't want to be loquacious.(Inside joke.Right,Giggles?;-).
Yeah to no lease! I was worrying about that and it is nice to know I can relax a bit.
I love sitting on the floor at Barnes and Noble and reading a book in a couple of hours; it makes the day feel like such a treat. It is great to be a fast reader, although I guess I haven't been devoting much time to my reading lately. No wonder I'm crabby.
I do think daydreaming is essential to existence though. I have been daydreaming. Imagine how crabby I would be without that mental sanctuary.
And I think navy and gray are much better with colors than black. I love black, but mostly with black, gray or white and a few very strong saturated colors. A color has to be pretty gutsy to stand up to black.
How was the movie. I fear I will have to wait for the DVD.
Mardel: I am so RELIEVED about the lease. I nearly danced a jig.
We just came from Boarders and I find their memoir section to be ghastly. I found nothing worthy of a two hour sit.
I ended up not going to the movie. I had a ruptured ovarian cyst and so I had to put Woody on the back burner.
Thanks for the lovely comments, Belette, as always!
This was such an uplifting read. Thank you.
Hi Belette
I can't believe you like the Dove Shampoo. Your pictures look like you have thick hair and so do I. That shampoo just weighs my hair down and I really want to like Dove with all their great advertising but I hate everything Dove especially the lotion! I do however love the Fructis hair conditioner. Ok I found this great product, as a matter of fact, it's so great you will want to put it on toast and eat it! It's called Moroccan Oil and you can buy it at Durgstore.com. It is awesome and it smells great all day long on your hair. Your hair will be soft, bounce, and wavy (if you buy the one for waves). This is my new favorite hair product.
"Armchair Igor" (me) thinks the reason you dreamed David Eggers kidnapped you is because he went to U of I. There, you ARE supposed to be in Illinois!
Love the story about the bus driver. I agree with Igor you should have said yes and then again in some parallel universe you are a movie star. Chances are those schmucks on the bus thought you were lying soooooo out there somebody believes you're a movie star.
Does Igor ever explain the difficulty parents have dealing with their children on an adult level? Your conversation with her about the success of another person's child was a negative knock to you. This is a dirty trick parents use. I know, my mother in law is the queen of that trick. She's such a wicked old bat but you know what she has been a great teacher to me. She has taught me how NOT to act or live my life. And I guess she has more lessons for me because I know she will live to be 100! Anyway all children have to learn to draw that line for their parents when the children become adults. When that line is drawn by YOU, they will recognize it and have that adult relationship with you. Like my french mother used to say "....sometimes you have to show your teeth..". It's hard for parents to see their children as adults and make that giant leap of having the adult relationship which is the most important relationship. After all our relationship as guardians to those children are for a few short years and for the majority of theirs and our life they are adults! I agree with you 8 hours was wayyy to long to spend with her. I think she could depress me too if I were with her that long.
Sorry I've gone on too long. I've been busy lately and haven't had a chance to visit one of my favorite bloggers.
a cat of impossible colour : Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
Linda: I use Morrocan oil. I use the regular kind. He-weasel loves the smell.
David Eggers also lived in Lake Forest. Just blocks from where I lived in Lake Bluff. Thank you for taking a go at the dream. You are the only one who dared! Brave, you!
I can't take the credit for being confused for a movie star. It was Igor they stopped. He really does look like a movie star. He looks a lot like Omar Sharif only more dashing.
He doesn't broach the adult/child issue so much as I am the adult in the relationship and she is the child. She wants me to be her mommy that takes care of her every need and see I am a bad mommy. If I was a good mommy I would be wildly successful and take care of her the way she thinks I should.
You are so dear. Thank you for your always lovely comments. xoxo
A lot of good news and advice here! :-)
I don't think I will change my shampoo, but I will try to increase mey reading .... and this afternoon I'm off to "Whatever Works"! :-)
Oh go ahead...be loquacious!! (I have esteem issues...you're helping a LOT!!!!)
Another memoir recommendation.... "Riding the Bus with my Sister" ( by Rachel Simon, who has a new book just out which I am going to pick up and get an autographoed copy...she's coming to our local library next month!!) I had wanted to read it since it came out in '02...it had gotten lots of good press, NPR, etc....but just finished it a coupla weeks ago... I was expecting rather mundane and ordinary... It was great. I had difficulty putting it down...the kids went hungry and neglected.... If you haven't already read it.....
Sorry about the movie. Hope you are feeling better.
Did he kidnap you back to Lake Forest/Bluff? That would say a lot there, I would think...?
Mardel: Thanks! I am and we are going to see the movie today.
David: Sadly he did not. It was just the info "Dave Eggers has kidnapped you." All narration and no action.
1. - So great - and such a relief!
2. She's cute as.
3. So great - save money and have gorgeous hair!
4. Sorry - can't help!
5. Great idea.
8. Navy not been in fashion for years (sadly - got a very conservative rap for a while), but loving that it's back too!
I am a navy gal, as well. It's the best.
Oh, I want to read How to be Alone after clicking and reading an excerpt.
Imogen:
1.Thank you. It is so nice not to be worried.
2. One might say that she is even cuter.;-)
3. I love a bargain!
4. That's okay. I think Igor got it and now I wish I didn't know.
5. I am really excited about my new memoir reading plan.
8. I am really loving it. Black is just too harsh for summer.
Freida Bee: I love orange and navy together and when I think of where you live I think *orange*!
Doesn't it look like a great book? Franzen is a fantastic writer.
Memoir recommendation: The Center of the Universe.
I heart: Thank you! I am adding to my list. You have great taste in books.:-)
